Making bags is all the rage, and my favorites use patterns designed by Annie Unrein of ByAnnie.com. Her patterns use her wonderful foam stabilizer product Soft and Stable along with whatever fabric you like. For best results, these get sandwiched and quilted, which is where longarming comes in very handy.

For the smaller bags, quilting on your domestic machine is certainly doable. But what about those larger projects? The Ruler Wrap, Tools of the Trade, and many of the larger totes and bags can be quilted on your home machine, but from experience, I will tell you it can be a daunting task. It is much easier to quilt larger pieces of fabric, lining, and Soft and Stable, then cut out my pieces and construct my bag. Not only is it easier, it is much faster, and I have so many design options!

Here is a project I made last Christmas for a gift for my mom, using my longarm to quilt together my fabrics with Soft and Stable. I still have a little of my quilted 'sandwich' left to make some smaller matching items for Mother's Day!

I used the Ginger Snap Pantograph on this one, which worked wonderfully with the kaleidoscope design on the fabric. As you can see in the photo below, I also made a matching glasses case out of some of my excess. I know if I hadn't already had it quilted, I probably would not have taken more time to quilt additional fabric for this, but it is one of Mom's favorite parts of her bag. No more lost glasses in the bottom of her purse!

Hopefully you can see how longarming can go way beyond a quilt! I'm happy to longarm your fabric and Soft and Stable for you. Just reach out to me at quiltedlollipop@gmail.com to indicate your interest.
